CNN News- 9/23/2011
The economy isn't growing like it should, better yet not growing at all. The Stock Market is a source used to show how the economy is doing, but in the past few days it has dropped 40 points, but at one point in the day, it was down nearly 500 points. I think this is not only horrible for out economy itself, but for the individuals and families survival. This is devastating to the US. As the government goes, they should be watching the Federal Reserve making sure that they are keeping up with how they are managing our money and running the place as a whole because that's exactly what I would be doing as well.
CNN News- 9/21/2011
Being in the military is a huge responsibility to take onto your plate and a large role in society as well. Yesterday, the "don't ask, don't tell" policy expired. This policy was put in place for those who were gay. They couldn't tell anyone they were homosexual nor be asked about it, but if their sexual orientation became public they could be discharged. More than 14,000 people were discharged from the army for this very reason. I think that with this policy being gone that it will make members of the military not only uncomfortable, but make it less effective as well, which isn't good for our society as a whole. As the government, we should make a compromise or better yet if it's going to be an issue either keep the gays out. If it were up to me the compromise of keeping them as seperate as possible would be put in place because it is important to keep these men and women focused on the task in play.
Response to my Impromptu Speech
For my impromtu speech, I thought I did really well! At the beginning, writing for 2 minutes was very difficult for me because I write pretty slow, which was a disadvantage for me. After I got my thoughts together, I wrote my opening and ending statements first then I wrote three examples, which prepared me for the speech I was about to present. Everything went very smoothly and wouldn't have changed a thing! I'm very proud of my thought process on the spot in 5 minutes!
Response to the Game
I played the game Taboo. It was a game that was set up for two teams (Team A and Team B) and a talker who tries to explain the main topic or word without using the five other words underneath the topic or word trying help your opponent guess the right word. You are taken off a point each time you say one or more of the five words below the topic and given points to you your team when you guess the word/topic. It was such a fun game! I had a lot of fun with it and participated greatly. If I could change the game in any way I would add a C and D Team to the game to make it more inclusive, but other than that it was a great new game!

9/19/2011- News
Snails in Florida are becoming very well known. Unlike, before no one though much of the critter, snails, but recently they have been appearing in spots that no one had noticed before. These are varying from small to large and different types of snails too! This is unsanitary because they could before long start showing up in houses, school rooms, and indoor facilities that contain people on a regular basis, which will cause problems immediately. This is just plain gross! If I were to try to prevent this I would make sure that there are inspectors fogging these contaminated areas to keep away from bacterias growing as well as places they could "migrate" too. This is also what the government should be doing to keep from these nasty creatures moving from place to place.

CNN Student News- September 12th, 2011
September 11th, 2001 was a horrible time for all of us in America. Many people died and many families changed forever. In rememberance, flowers were laid. The flowers were symbolizing love from the friends and family members of those that were lost. To me, this stood out because seeing everyone with tears rolling down their face in sadness made me upset for them. The flowers that that they laid meant they loved them even though those gone couldn't see it. Imagining someone in my life passing away that I loved hurts me more than words can describe just thinking about it. As the government in America, it is their job to make sure we continue you to remember these loved ones lost in this awful inncident forever!
Persuasive Speech- Why Is Coke Better than Pepsi?
Pepsi and Coca Cola have long been rivals in the marketing industry and two most recognizable names in soft drinks.Together they produce the #1 (Coca Cola), #2 (Diet Coke) and #3 (Pepsi) soft drinks in the United States and each make tens of billions of dollars in profits every year. Since 1886, Coke has been going strong holding the award of "Best Soda Drink in the World." In 2011, Coke still beats Pepsi in sales and long-term taste tests. I totally agree because to me, Coke is better anyday! The taste, the emotional brandings, and their marketing techniques are some of the reasons everyone is addicted to coke!
The taste is unbelivable and definitely "to die for." Pepsi tastes sweeter than Coke. While this often makes consumers initially like the product more than Coke, but people have reported that the more they drink it the less enjoyable the drink is. Coca Cola's flavor is way more bitter and sweet, which allows you to drink over long periods of time. Hannah Davis says, "I have been drinking Coke for years and I couldnt imagine drinking any other soft drink, especially Pepsi!" It just becomes something you enjoy forever unlike Pepsi.
The emotional brandings that many are attracted to on coke advertisements, bottles, etc. that involve soothing and warm imagery: A jolly Santa Claus, adorable polar bears, and beaches. Studies have shown that these types of images cause people to feel more warmly toward Coke products. Coke products tend to persuade more people to buy their products through the display of their products. Many more people are likely to reach for the red cans instead of the blue ones at the store because of the red attraction.
Coke has highly visible spots on top-rated shows like "The Voice" and the Superbowl. Coca Cola gets its brand in front of more people. In the last few years, Pepsi has opted for less traditional campaigns that have not had huge payoffs. Coca Cola is more marketable and more put together as a whole, which allows them to not only sell more product, but make more money on top of that.
We as Americans love good 'ole Coke! It suits all of our thirst as a whole and puts a smile on our faces. A lot of Coca Cola's business is done outside of North America as well. Pepsi does not have as strong of a hold in the rest of the world. The taste, the emotional brandings, and their marketing techniques keeps everyone LOVING Coke, just as much as I do if not more!

CNN News-Friday, September 9th
September 11th, 2001, a tragic event occurred where hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers as well as The Pentagon and attempted the White House as well. This huge event changed every single Americans life! Our country was never the same because the United States government and people began to lock down to secure our nation as a whole to keep from something like this happening again. I remember the feeling I got when my teacher turned on the TV and I saw with my own two eyes the damage that had been done not only to the buildings, but to our country as a whole. That feeling was one of the worst feelings for not only me, but for us all! I wish that there was something I could have done to prevent it, but as for the government itself, it should have been more aware of our surroundings and what the surrounding countries were up to. Also, we shouldn't have let something as big as the September 11th event help us make our nations decisions, we should be pro-active and do things like secure our country especially airports before things happen! We are America and because we are free, often times people as we were shown by this incident try to take that from us constantly.
CNN News- Wednesday, September 7th
Fires have been spreading wildly, burning down many wildlife reservations and homes in various towns in Texas. The people there are trying to stay strong. I would hate to be in the situation these people are, having to worry about "running" from fires trying to predict when and where the next one will light up. It makes me feel awful for the families going through this type of devastation. If I could do anything to help, in the future I would make sure the forrests, towns, etc. were evaluated to help to figure out where the next fires might occur, but right now keeping people from them is most important as well as making sure help is right around the corner (firefighters).
Staring Reflection
I think I am rather good at not only projecting, but "connecting" with the audience through eye contact, so this was rather easy to do for me. The only hard part to me was to figure out the topic that I wanted to talk about. I ended up talking about my grandparents and our relationship together throughout the years. I absolutely love my grandparents so it wasnt hard at all to talk about especially because I always have lots of fun with them that way there is lots to talk about. I wouldn't change a thing about my "Staring Speech."
